Oconee Today -- Sept. 27

The Oconee County Schools system-wide Teacher of the Year will be named at a banquet this evening.

Weather: Watch out for patches of early morning fog. The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies for today with highs in the low to mid 80s. The low temperature overnight will be around 60 with partly cloudy skies.

Top things to know:

  • The Athens Career Center holds a free workshop for veterans from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help them transition into the workplace. Learn more.
  • Current volunteers and those interested in becoming volunteers with the Athens Area Humane Society are invited to Ashford Manor for a party from 6-8 p.m.  The 2013 AAHS calendar will be released.
  • This year's Oconee County Schools Teacher of the Year banquet will be this eveing at 6:30 p.m., at the Oconee County Civic Center.  This banquet is sponsored by the Oconee County Schools Alumni Association. One of the 10 teachers selected at each individual school will receive the honor.
  • Athens YMCA hosts a Kindermarket Consignment Preview Sale from 8-10 p.m. There's a $4 entry fee this evening, but there is no fee to attend the sale on Friday or Saturday.
