Oconee Today -- Sept. 17

Constitution Day, a school board meeting and the circus are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: There's a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon.  Highs will be in the low 80s, according to the Weather Channel.

Top things to know:

  • Children and their caretakers are invited to a free Storytime session every Monday at Learning Express Toys inside the Georgia Square Mall. It begins at 10:30 a.m.
  • At 4 p.m., members of the community are invited to gather in front of the Oconee County Courthouse for a brief ceremony to commemorate the ratification of the US Constitution.  Bells will ring and a Chairman Melvin Davis of the Board of Commissioners is slated to read a proclamation, The Oconee Enterprise reports.
  • The Oconee County Board of Education meets at 4:30 p.m. They'll hear a teaching and learning update and discuss a pair of policies related to board meetings and open records.  To see the complete draft of the meeting's agenda, click here.
  • Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars brings its show to Oconee County Sept. 17-19.  There are two performances daily: 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $21 each for adults and $16 each for children.  Reserved and VIP seats are also available.
  • The Good Ole Girls Outreach, route: {:controller=>"events", :action=>"show", :id=>"gogo-get-together-good-ole-girls-outreach-7bafae32"} --> - a free networking group for women -- holds a get together at from 5:30- 7 p.m.
