Oconee Today -- Nov. 26

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend has come to a close and Cyber Monday is here. See what else there is to know in and around Oconee today.

Weather: We'll see sunshine and highs back up into the mid 60s as folks head back to work and school following the long holiday weekend.  The next chance of showers comes overnight.

Things to know:

  • All Oconee County government offices along with Watkinsville City Hall reopen today and will operate under normal business hours.  And school is back is session for Oconee County students.
  • The annual Can-a-thon food drive begins at Oconee County Schools.  Please donate non-perishable items over the next two weeks which will be taken to ACTS Food Bank.
  • Hopefully you had a fun and memorable Thanksgiving! Did you make dinner or a special dessert?  Is it a tradition for your family to decorate for Christmas over the long weekend? We invite you to share your favorite photos of the festivities here: http://patch.com/A-zKt4
  • While many eager shoppers braved the cold and long lines in hopes of nabbing deals on Black Friday, others frequented their favorite local stores on Small Business Saturday. Now, tech-savy shoppers get their chance on Cyber Monday.
  • Speaking of Cyber Monday, check out the Athens Area Humane Society's website for discounts on calendars, pet adoption certificates and other great deals.
  • If your child has elected to participate in the 2012 JAC/DAR Art and Creative Writing Contest, don't forget that entries need to be submitted at the Oconee County Library this afternoon from 3:30-6 p.m.
