Oconee Today -- March 27

Oconee County joins the entire northeast Georgia community to celebrate the life of Senior Police Officer Buddy Christian today as family, friends, and citizens say goodbye to one of Athens-Clarke County Police Department's finest.

1. The weather again mirrors the somber mood of northeast Georgia on the day of Athens-Clarke County .  More thunderstorms are on the way today.  The high temperature is expected to be around 60 degrees, according to the Weather Channel.

2. Streets in downtown Athens will be closed from 11 a.m. until after 2 p.m. as family, friends, and an entire to Christian at the at 2 p.m.  The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has announced that only police will park on East Broad Street, Jackson Street, East Dougherty Street, and Foundry Street. The Classic Center Parking Deck will be reserved for Christian's family and friends. Everyone else should use the deck at the Court House or the Federal Bldg., or UGA's Jackson Street parking deck. Following the funeral service, citizens are asked to honor Christian by lining the streets as the procession travels west on Broad Street on the way to Evergreen Memorial Park

3. A memorial fund has been set up for the Christian Family through .  Donations may be dropped off at any branch or mailed to 150 West Hancock Ave, Athens GA 30601, with a notation that it is for this fund. The Noble Heros Foundation  is also devoted to "honoring the men and women of public safety in their time of need." Donations may be made through the website to Christian's family and injured officer Tony Howard.

5. A Facebook Page has also been created to honor the memory of Officer Christian. As of Saturday night, nearly 3,500 people "liked" the page, many of which have left messages of condolences and prayers for his family.
