Special musical performances at Athens Academy and UGA are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather:  The work week starts with a 60 percent chance of scattered showers in the morning.  Cloudy skies are expected later in the day with highs reaching into the low to mid 60s, according to the Weather Channel.

Top things to know:

  • The Oconee County Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. and plans to recognize Morgan Power, counselor at Colham Ferry Elementary School,for being selected to receive the first annual School Mentor Coordinator Appreciation Recognition.  See the complete draft of tonight's agenda.
  • Breast cancer survivors are invited to the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support for free Mondays at 5 p.m.
  • A special performance takes place at Athens Academy at 7 p.m. in the Bertelsmann Performance Hall. features pianist Kevin Pollock, cellist Ruth Berry, and oboist Kelly Odell.  Tickets are $10 or $2 for students.
  • Jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon and his quintet pay tribute to “Satchmo” in Hello Pops at 8 p.m. in UGA's Hodgson Concert Hall. Tickets range from $20-35 each with additional discounts available for UGA students, according to a news release.
