Oconee Today -- Jan. 18

What you should know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: Cloudy skies early will gradually clear later in the day.  The National Weather Service predicts highs in the low 50s and gusty winds. Temperatures overnight will drop into the upper 20s.

Top things to know:

  • The is hosting multiple events.  First, little ones are invited to Storytime at 10 a.m. A second session will start at 11 a.m.  At 3:30 p.m., kids age 3 and can attend a by AKF Athens Martial Arts.  Finally, teens are welcome to an early celebration of National Popcorn Day (Jan.19) starting at 6 p.m. There will be a variety of popcorn snacks and a screening of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."
  • The Board of Commissioners have called a meeting for 5 p.m. They are expected to adjourn into executive session for discussion on litigation and property acquisition matters.
  • On the sports calendar, the North Oconee Titans wrestling team hosts Monticello, Elbert Co. and Lanier in a meet.  The UGA Bulldogs men's basketball team takes on Tennessee at 8 p.m.
