Oconee Today -- Jan. 13

A cold and windy end to the work week.

Weather: Temperatures dropped significantly overnight and will remain cold throughout the day, according to the Weather Channel.  Highs will be in the mid 40s with west winds at 15 to 25 mph.

Top things to know:

  • It's the last day of pre-registration to qualify for the Second Annual Dream to be Able ML5K, a run benefitting ESP's programs for children and young adults with disabilities.  The race takes place on Monday, Jan. 16 in Athens.  .
  • In sports news, the North Oconee Titan JV and varsity basketball teams host Elbert County beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Oconee County Warriors travel to Monroe area.
  • An opening reception will be held at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation for , a collection of paintings by June F. Johnston.  The reception, from 6-8 p.m., is open to the pubic.
  • If you missed the performances last week, there are additional opportunities to see the Oconee Youth Playhouse's presentation of ' this weekend. The curtain opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Oconee County Civic Center.  Tickets may be purchased before the show and range between $12-16. 
  • Come to UGA's Hodgson Music Hall at 8 p.m. to hear the Jazz Band perform alongside Marcus Printup. Tickets are $5 for students; general admission is $10.
