Oconee Today -- Feb. 12

A faith-based 5K, Valentine cake pops for the kids, and a pageant fundraiser for Extra Special People are a few of the goings-on in Oconee today.

1. Beautiful weather is in today's forecast.  Expect to see sunny skies and warm temperatures with highs in the upper 50s.

2. A fun Valentine's Day event will take place at for kids this afternoon. Children 10 and older are invited to come make Valentine Cake Pops beginning at 2 p.m.

3. sponsors the first ever this afternoon which will benefit the Mother's Morning Out program. The event begins with a 1 p.m. one mile run followed by a 5K race at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $20 to sign up as a participant.

4. Speaking of benefits, a fundraiser for  Extra Special People Inc. hits the stage at this evening. The  raises money for the non-profit organization that provides therapeutic programs for special needs children and young adults.

5.  Tonight is the closing night of the musical Once Upon A Mattress at Athens Academy.  The play puts a unique spin on the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, according to the school's website.  Price of admission is $2 for students and $5 for adults. The curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. in the Presentation Hall.
