Oconee Today -- Aug. 3

It's the first Friday of the month! Time for celebrations in downtown Watkinsville.

Weather:  Hopefully rain showers will stay away this evening so First Friday festivities in Watkinsville won't be affected, but the Weather Channel is predicting a 50 percent chance of rain, mainly in the afternoon.  A high of 90 degrees is expected.

Top things to know:

  • Bingo is offered at the at 10:30 a.m. and is played at 1 p.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center.
  • The First Friday season , was cancelled in June because of inclement weather and took a hiatus in July due to the holiday week. But it's back tonight (as long as the weather cooperates!).  Starting at 6 p.m., the Oconee County Cycling Organization will hold a Bike and Trike Rodeo in downtown Watkinsville. Kids will learn about bicycle safety and the organization will be giving away 200 helmets, according to The Oconee Leader.  There will also be .  The event, sponsored by the Watkinsville Trade and Tourism Association, is free.
  • Oconee Youth Performance debuts "Freckleface Strawberry" at the Oconee County Civic Center at 7 p.m. .
