Oconee Today -- April 9

A multicultural health fair and a chair quilting class are two of the events taking place in the area today. See what else there is to know.

1.  The weekend starts off with mainly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s.  There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to forecasts.

2. The College of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia hosts a Multicultural Health Fair from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the J & J Flea Market.  There will be information about a variety of health topics including dental hygiene.  Health screenings, blood pressure checks, and cholesterol screenings will be available to the community.

3. Skydive for a good cause.  Extra Special People, Inc. is looking for "Super Heroes" to Jump, Fly, and Be Different by leaping out of planes to raise money for the organization's programs that assist children and young adults with developmental disabilities in northeast Georgia.  The event will take place on May 7 at the Monroe Airport.

4. soccer teams take on Mountain View.  The girls' game gets underway at 10 a.m. and the boys will play at noon.

5. Dragonfly Quilt Shop offers a Dream Chair Quilts class, with author and instructor Alethea Ballard  from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  The cost is $49.
