Oconee Today -- April 5

It's National Public Health Week. Find out about nearby events each day that raise awareness about how to live safer lives.

1. Cloudy skies early will give way to sun later today.  It will be another windy day, according to the National Weather Service.  Wind gusts may reach speeds of up to 30 mph. There is a wind advisory in effect until 8 p.m. Cooler temperatures are predicted, with highs in the mid 60s.

2. In recognition of National Public Health Week, over 100 students from the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior’s Health and Wellness class at the University of Georgia will be passing out information from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, according to a news release.  Topics include Georgia's Move Over Law and warnings about texting while driving, among others. 

3. members are invited to listen to Storytelling by United Hospice at 11:30 a.m.  There is also a morning craft class.

4. The University of Georgia Diamond Dogs take on Charleston Southern at Foley Field beginning at 7 p.m. Check out the for information about local high school teams in action this afternoon. 

5. The regular meeting of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners will get underway at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the .
