Oconee Today -- April 13

It's Friday the 13th. Here are a few things to know in and around Oconee today.

Weather: has been issued for Oconee County. We'll see mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s.  Overnight lows will drop into the mid to upper 40s.

Top things to know:

  • Voting for this week's Readers' Choice -- favorite place to buy sporting goods in the Oconee area -- closes at 9 a.m. 
  • Representatives of the University of Georgia visit the Oconee County Senior Center this morning to teach a free nutrition class.  Seniors are invited to stick around after the class for bingo.
  • In sports news, OCHS varsity baseball team travels to Morgan County and the NOHS team heads to Johns Creek for 5:55 p.m. games.   The UGA Diamond Dogs host Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for all games.
  • Speaking of UGA events, the UGA Wind Ensemble performs "Icons" -- the final concert of the season-- at 8 p.m. in the Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall. Tickets cost $5-10.
  • Canopy Repertory Company's spring show "EVOLVE" opens tonight at 8 p.m.  Additional performances take place on Saturday and Sunday.  See www.canopystudio.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
  • Opening in wide release today are the horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, the thriller Lockout and the comedy The Three Stooges.  Check local theatres for showtimes: Carmike Cinema, Beechwood Stadium Cinemas 11
