Community Corner

Oconee Today

March 25th, 2012

March 25th is noted as Pecan Day AND Waffle Day. I say, start it right with a pecan waffle and spend the day right on both accounts.

WEATHER: The weather service is predicting a Partly Cloudy day with a high of 76; there is only a 10% chance of rain throughout the day, dropping to almost NO chance in the evening. The mix of sunshine and clouds will make this a PERFECT family day to get outside for the Fourth Annual Cottage 5K Run/Walk at Sandy Creek Park in Athens.

The race benefits the Cottage Sexual Assault Center and children’s Advocacy Center and starts 15 3:30 p.m. For those who haven’t already registered on line, it’s not too late! Be there at 2:30 p.m. Registration is in the Community building for $22/person or a family rate of $55.

More Family Outings:

For an exceptional day with the family, bring them out for an afternoon at the Bear Hollow Zoo Open Exhibit Hall. The wildlife exhibit includes a variety of amphibian, reptile and inveterate species with projects for younger visitors. Admission to the exhibit hall is free every Sunday.

Or for something a bit more artsy, try out the "Family Try Clay" Class at Good Dirt - It's a great way to introduce your child to the creative world of clayas the instructor works with students to create hand-built projects, such as ceramic piggy banks, dishes and sculptures. All work will be glazed and fired in electric kilns.  Please call 706-355-3161 to register for the session of your choice.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your day ... and we'd love for you to share some of your springtime photos with your Oconee Patch!
