Over $115,000 Collected During 2013 Oconee County Relay for Life

Forty-two teams and 536 participants came together Saturday to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

Hundreds gathered at North Oconee High School Saturday to remember loved ones who've lost their lives to cancer, to honor survivors who continue their battles, and to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

The event netted a whopping $115,390.15, and the Oconee County Relay website states that number may not yet reflect all of the donations.

"Thank you to our wonderful community," was the message posted to the Oconee County Relay Facebook Page on Sunday. "We had a great Relay For Life!"

The top teams in terms of fundraising this year were:

  1. Hot Mamas- "Jail House Rock"- $16,834.65 (14 members)
  2. Cable East, Inc.- "Fight Like a Girl"- $13,348.03Β  (12 members)
  3. Rocky Branch - "Don't Stop Believing" - $9,025 (27 members)

The three individual participants who raised the most money were:

  1. Paul Feener - $3,574.19
  2. Linda Lundy - $2,350
  3. Lynn Elmore - $1,678.19
