Area Fugitive Crashes Vehicle Into Two Patrol Cars While Attempting to Escape New York State Police

A Monroe man wanted for armed robbery by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office has been captured.

Raymond Smith, 30, was captured by New York State Police after a brief pursuit on Jan. 8. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle which had been stopped by a trooper for speeding. As the trooper was interviewing the driver outside the vehicle, Smith allegedly slid into the driver's seat and drove away prompting authorities to pursue the vehicle.

The pursuit ended when Smith intentionally crashed into a patrol car, according to aΒ New York State Police press release. Smith then put the vehicle into reverse and backed into another patrol car.
