Community Corner

Open House for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Join us Monday, October 7th at 5:30pm as we celebrate 10 new volunteers being sworn into the Clarke County Juvenile Court system as legal child advocates. In addition to the ceremony, the evening will also be an Open House for all community members to come and learn more about the program, getting involved, and becoming a CASA volunteer.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a program that trains volunteers to be advocates for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers gather information about the children's cases, attend all court hearings, and give detailed reports to the judge in the best interest of the children. The ultimate goal is placing children in safe and permanent homes as quickly as possible. Athens-Oconee CASA is currently working with over 90 children and is actively recruiting new volunteers for its spring training session!

Friends, family, and the community are all invited to come share this special celebration together with the volunteers and staff from Children First, Inc., and learn more about making a difference in the life of a child!

The Children First Cottage is located at 693 North Pope Street, Athens, 30601.
