Share the Love at ARMC Blood Drives

Share the Love this February with Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) as they host two February blood drives.

Share the Love this February with Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) as it hosts two February blood drives. The first will be held on Thursday, February 7th, from 7:15 am to 6:15 pm and the second on Thursday, February 17th from 12 noon to 6:00 pm. Both blood drives will be held on the 3rd floor of the Medical Services Building on King Avenue.

The American Red Cross is in need of blood.  As of now, only 38% of the American population qualifies to donate blood.  Every year more than 4 million people require blood transfusions and the only sources of blood for these individuals in need are healthy volunteers who donate. By giving less than an hour of time and only one pint of blood, up to three lives can be saved, including those that have been affected by cancer, anemia, accidents and many other illnesses.

As a thank you, all donors will receive food, coupons, and a chance to win door prizes and other raffle items! Subway is donating cookies.  Gigi’s is donating cupcakes and door prizes.

Many of the regular donors at Athens Regional drives are hospital employees, but people in the Athens area are encouraged to come. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be scheduled.

To donate, a person must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Volunteers should get a full night’s sleep, eat iron-enriched foods and drink extra fluids before and after donating. Donors also must bring a photo I.D. All eligible donors are encouraged to come out and share the love by donating blood and saving lives!

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call the System Relations interns at 706-475-3306.
