Athens Orthopedic Clinic Dances for a Pink Cause

Athens Orthopedic Clinic employees need community support to win the Pink Glove Dance Contest and donate funds to the local breast cancer charity Breast Fest Athens.

Athens Orthopedic Clinic employees gathered at the Melting Point last month to spend hours dancing in pink gloves for the Pink Glove Dance video contest. The large group of employees named their collaborative dance team "Athens Goes Pink."

They danced all afternoon to save lives and their devotion showed. Their hearts, as well as their bodies, were committed to getting each dance step perfect. The mix of dance numbers ranged from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to songs from the popular film "Dirty Dancing."

The contest started after Medline, a national manufacturer and distributor of health care supplies and services, produced the original Pink Glove Dance video in 2009.

The employees and family members from Athens Orthopedic Clinic were dedicated to the project because they say the cause is important to them. The contest is national; groups from all over are dancing in pink gloves for the cause and they know the competition will be fierce.

First-place winners will receive $10,000, second place will win $5,000, and third place will win $2,000 to be donated to the breast cancer charity of the winner’s
choice.

If Athens Orthopedic wins, they'll chose Breast Fest Athens as the charity to receive their prize money because they want to keep the prize funds local.

"This is a local effort, so we want to keep the dollars local" said Lori Lord, the Director of Marketing at Athens Orthopedic Clinic.

Voting on the dance videos started Oct. 12. Winners will be announced Nov. 2.

Athens Orthopedic Clinic has their posted on the site.

"We are hoping to gather support from the local community. This is an important cause for us and we hope to generate enough support from the community to win and donate the funds for Breast Fest, " Lord said.
