Watkinsville Police on Sunday, May 19, were called to a Lawanna Drive home in response to a domestic dispute. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said one person was gathering some belongings to move out and officers stood by to "keep the peace." In a news release, O'Dillon also noted the following incidents: On Thursday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m., police were called to a domestic situation at a Wilson Road  address.  A married couple was arguing over several issues but the argument did not become physical.  Both sides agreed to remain apart for the evening. A 26-year-old Watkinsville woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police say they found her inside of a Cedar Drive duplex when they arrived to conduct a burglary investigation. Officers checked on the residence following the arrest of a 30-year-old Colbert man during a traffic stop on New High Shoals Road that morning.  Aaron Tyler Poss had been driving a truck that didn't belong to him, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said. Police say a 30-year-old man entered a Watkinsville home Wednesday, took keys to a truck and some credit cards, and drove off in the vehicle. Responding to reports of a possible impaired driver, officers pulled the suspect over on New High Shoals Road near Bishop's Vineyard subdivision around 11:15 a.m., Police Chief Lee O'Dillon explained.  The man was unable to answer questions about the truck's owner, he said, and further investigation led police to a duplex on Cedar Drive where it was discovered some items had been taken from the residence. A Harden Hill Road resident returned home from work last Wednesday, May 1, to find that someone had broken a window on the garage door. According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the intruder may have attempted to reach inside and unlock the door but it was secured with a double cylinder dead bolt lock. The burglar didn't get inside and nothing outside seemed to be missing, he said. Police were called to a domestic situation at a Layle Lane residence on April 30. Watkinsville police with the assistance of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Monday arrested a Statham man who allegedly bilked $28,000 out of a 90-year-old military veteran from Watkinsville in less than one year under the guise of providing landscaping services. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon says the Western Judicial Circuit's District Attorney's Office helped with the investigation, which was launched in early April after the victim's family members examined his bank account records. The victim had written 38 checks to Paul Kevin Harris, ranging in amounts of $25-$1,200 each, he explained…
Watkinsville police last week investigated several reports of property crime. Chief Lee O'Dillon summarized the incidents as follows in his weekly news release: At 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, a property owner at a Woodside Place resident discovered that someone had pried the door off a metal storage shed behind the house. Two new tool boxes and some car parts were stolen. The tool boxes were empty. The landlord suspects a former renter. Watkinsville police on April 17 around 7 p.m. were called to a Colham Ferry Extension address after the owner of a 2007 Lexus noticed that her car was damaged. It appears that a rock had struck the trunk lid, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon.  The car had been parked in the driveway all day and the owner stated that she did not know who would have damaged her car. No one was injured when a 2013 Toyota Corolla backed into the side of an Oconee County School bus last week as it was driving by on Jeremy Drive.week.  According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. An 80-year-old Jeremy Drive resident was charged with improper backing, he said. A 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig struck and destroyed the railroad crossing mast and warning lights on Ga. Highway 15 at the railroad crossing around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2. According to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's news release, the truck had attempted to make a sharp right turn from McRee Street onto Ga. Highway 15 southward. Watkinsville police on Thursday charged two men in connection with the setting of a small fire outside of a local convenience store at the end of March. According to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, the clerk on duty at Golden Pantry on Greensboro Highway said he saw two men standing in front of the store and noticed what he thought was cigarette smoke. Burglars targeted two Watkinsville homes last week and made off with various electronic equipment, according to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon. At 4 p.m. on Monday, March 25, police were called to a South Third Street address after the resident returned home and realized that someone had broken into the house, a news release stated. A side door had been pried open and the interior of the house had been searched and ransacked. Three flat screen televisions, a laptop computer, an X-Box, and a Wii were stolen. An Atlanta man has been charged with forgery in the first degree after police say he fabricated a check and attempted to cash it at a Watkinsville bank. According to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, an alert teller on March 19 notified police that a man was at Oconee State Bank on Main Street attempting to cash a bogus check. Police arrived and took Kareem Donelle Dixon, 32, of Atlanta into custody, he said. Dixon is accused of creating a fake check in the amount of $1,593 written on an Oconee County business and presenting it for payment at the bank. Police verified that the …
Watkinsville Police last Thursday night shortly after 11 p.m. responded to a burglar alarm at Watkinsville Service Center located 1326 Greensboro Highway. When they arrived, officers saw that a window had been smashed, but the intruder had already fled, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon. The business owner met officers at the scene and determined that a change drawer containing about $30 was taken, O'Dillon noted in a news release. A Whitehall Road property owner complained to Watkinsville police on Thursday that a neighbor’s lawn maintenance crew had dumped the limbs and grass clippings onto his land. Once the offending yard owner was shown the debris, he agreed to remove it, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon's weekly news release. Watkinsville Police on Saturday around noon stopped the driver of a 2000 Honda Passport on Whitehall Road at Taylors Drive after determining the tag on the vehicle was not valid, according to a news release from Chief Lee O'Dillon. Leanne Hudgins, 42, of Calls Creek Circle, was charged with having a suspended tag, driving without insurance, and a violation of a limited D.U.I. permit, O'Dillon said. Around 6:30 Sunday morning, a resident of Taylors Court stepped outside and interrupted someone searching the interior of his parked Mitsubishi, according to Watkinsville Police. The suspect then fled on foot.  Nothing appeared to be missing from the car. Heavy rain was a contributing factor in a one-vehicle accident on Feb. 21 in Watkinsville, police say. According to Chief Lee O'Dillon, the driver of a 2007 Toyota Corolla lost control and struck a sign post along Whitehall Road, damaging the car and destroying the sign.  It happened shortly after 10 p.m., he said, and the driver was not injured. Watkinsville Police on Saturday took a report of someone having tossed a rock through a rear window at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation building on 34 School Street.  The glass was smashed but nothing else was damaged, Chief Lee O'Dillon wrote in a news release. Watkinsville police and medical units responded to Whitehall Road at Third Street on Sunday morning where a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria had pulled into the path of a eastbound 2002 Mazda 626.  The driver of the Mazda was taken by ambulance to Athens Regional Medical Center.  Both cars suffered heavy damage in the accident that happened around 10:30 a.m., according to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon. A 38-year old Watkinsville man is facing additional charges of child molestation and sexual battery after a second alleged victim reported abuse, according to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon. Kenneth Troy Cobb was arrested again on Friday at River Oaks apartments on Will Hunter Road in Athens where he works as a maintenance man, O'Dillon said. On Jan. 17, Cobb was arrested at the same location on a warrant that alleges  molestation of a 12-year-old girl occurred between Nov. 1, 2011, and Jan. 13, 2013.  He was later released on a $25,000 bond.
