The Truth Behind 'False and Spurious'
Don't look now, fellow patriots, but the Second Amendment is under attack. There is a conspiracy brewing that may ultimately undermine the right of every law abiding American to openly carry loaded guns wherever they darn well please, whether it be their local bodega or the public library.
This weekend the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who most folks think is a lock to unseat the wildly unpopular Barack Hussein Obama after it was recently revealed President Obama has played more rounds of golf in three years than Tiger Woods has in his entire career, was in Salt Lake City, Utah for a meeting with GOP leaders and money hoarders from all across America. In conjunction with this high level meeting of Republican strategists, Utah Governor Gary Herbert who happens to be a Republican and a Mormon (sound familiar?), issued a statement blaming the use of previously lawful firearms on the rash of wildfires that have ravaged his state.
According to a Christian Science Monitor report, “Authorities now say 20 of Utah’s wildfires this year were started by target shooters, compared to 24 in total last year – with three months left in the western wildfire season. The Dump fire near Saratoga Springs, Utah, started near a landfill when the spark from a bullet hitting a rock set off a patch of grass, which then quickly spread, fueled by dry conditions and gale-force winds.” In a media release posted on the governor's state controlled website, Herbert urged strict gun control as the answer to turn the tide:
“Due to extremely dry conditions and a heightened fire risk statewide, Governor Gary R. Herbert called on local officials today to do everything possible to minimize potential harm by exercising great caution regarding use of fireworks and firearms in their jurisdictions.”
“While we may not be able to prevent those fires caused by natural forces, we must do all possible to prevent human-caused fires, encouraging local jurisdictions to appropriately regulate use of fireworks and firearms if necessary.”
“He concluded by calling on local officials to crack down on the inappropriate use of firearms.“
Wildfires? There is no proof that these fires were caused by target shooters. These claims are false and spurious. Inappropriate use? How can one protect themselves if one is not allowed to target shoot? This whole thing is nothing more than an excuse for stricter gun control and flies in the face of everything George Washington and Thomas Jefferson held dear! Isn't this the exact kind of tyranny the Second Amendment was designed to protect us against?
There are some who believe the timing of Governor Herbert's virulent anti-gun rhetoric is no mere coincidence and that his statement may have come directly from the Romney camp. Romney, a well known conscientious objector who used a religious deferment to bicycle in France and avoid serving in Vietnam, is known to be soft on Second Amendment rights. He has supported both the Brady anti-handgun legislation and federal bans on assault weapons as well as Massachusetts' own tough anti-freedom gun laws when he was governor there.
Romney's recent shift to a more sympathetic stance with gun shooters appears to be the kind of blatant pandering that is a page straight out of the Saul Alinsky playbook and should not be trusted. His known stance on strict gun control is in direct contrast with President Obama's strong support of Second Amendment rights. Liberals were up in arms when Obama recently signed a bill supporting gun measures that allow freedom loving patriots to carry loaded weapons throughout our Nation's National Park system. Some gun owners fear that an executive order to overturn such measures is on Romney's rather long list of things he has vowed to accomplish on his first day in office.
As the inevitability of a Romney Presidency creeps ever closer, we have a right to know what he knew and when he knew to know it about operation "False and Spurious." Can we trust what Romney says now or should we trust what he said before about taking all of our guns? Sometimes I miss that Bush fellow, we all knew where he stood on guns. He even had his Vice President shoot someone in the face.

You Had a Comment several days ago about Guns in the Parks, You got Beat up real Bad about your comments, which you have the right to Comment , so do we have the right to carry guns, they might be an arsonist trying to burn someones home down or up someones car. I have a permit, to carry a Gun and I am also voting for Romney

Two things....
One, you can't carry into your local library. Public-owned building, strictly off limits.
That being said, good article. You're not the first one to wonder about this topic. I am torn on who to vote for, and am once again surprised that this country picked somebody like Romney to represent the Right. Feels like 4 years ago. That being said, come November, the Right will have an even greater majority in the House and will control the Senate, so Romney's anti-gun stance (if there is one, I can't really tell - much like other things about Romney) may not be as much of an issue.
The other thing about Romney and these issues that keep coming up is that I can't tell how much is there that is true liberal thought processes, and how much was pandering for votes to keep him in office. I keep telling myself that he was governor of one of the most liberal states in the nation and wanted to keep being reelected. But I'm not sure that's really such a good thing, either.....

So if you can't carry in public buildings I guess it makes sense you shouldn't be allowed to carry in a public park. I was just making that very case in another thread. Romney will say whatever it takes to get elected.

I'm not one to agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't be allowed to carry into public buildings, either. But your argument is valid. Again, though, I'm not inclined to go to a park where I know help is perhaps a very long way away and the only people armed are the criminals.
And regarding the saying anything part to get elected, it's not really much different from Obama himself. He railed against things before he was president, only to fall into the routine of doing those very same things now. His declaring executive privilege for this Fast and Furious disaster is nothing but a ploy to keep him from being embarrassed before election time, which is not really the reason that executive privilege exists. He was dead set against gay marriage a few years ago, now sees political opportunity in switching camps. One's really not better than the other.
The difference to me, though, is that for some reason I think (or hope) that Romney is actually more conservative than anybody really thinks he is. Obama, however, really does believe that this is the greatest country ever and wants us to stand with him as he changes it. I gotta go for the unknown and hopefull rather than the known and hopeless.....

That being said, let me also clear up something else I said. I'm not torn on who to vote for. I mis-spoke. I will not be voting for Obama. I know who I'll be voting for. I just wish my choice wasn't Romney....

So if they were no guns, only the bad guys would have them-look at Europe! They have very tough restrictions and I haven't noticed they have stopped shooting each other. So it really does come down to control, not our safety. This is a government who created Homeland Security and can't even give you a head count of how many illegals are running around in our back yards and walking down the highway.

Actually, if there where no guns, no one would have them. While we experience tens of thousands of firearm related deaths each year such deaths are virtually unheard of in countries with the toughest gun laws like Japan and the UK. There are no statistics to show that carrying a firearm makes you any safer.

Uh huh....that's why gun deaths still occur in those places. Lots of stories about that. In fact, gun violence went up astronomically in the UK after guns were outlawed. Because all those nice, law-abiding criminals gave up their guns...just because the government told them to. Gun violence always goes up when guns are taken out of law-abiding citizens' hands. Look at Chicago, NYC, even right here on the Georgia Tech campus. They're having a huge problem with gun violence and muggings and break ins. In fact, just this weekend, a student woke up in his dorm room (yes, his dorm room) to see two guys in his room with him. One pointed a gun at his head while the other rifled through his desk. I have the feeling that pretty soon we'll see students and teachers with permits being allowed to carry, and the crime rate will drop drastically. You can also look at Kennesaw to see what having guns does. Break ins, muggings and more were a huge problem there, then everybody was told they have to have a gun in their house. Of course, no way to enforce that, but crime dropped drastically there, too. So all kinds of statistics out there to show having firearms makes citizens safer....

There isn't a "huge problem with gun violence" on the Georgia Tech campus. Virtually all robberies "at" Tech have been in the Homepark area, or somewhere else off campus. Media just call it Georgia Tech. Also, there are locks on the dorm. Someone let the robbers into the building this weekend, and the student also didn't lock his own door. If proper protocol was followed, there would have been no robbery and no story. Probably makes more sense to follow protocol than to have a gunfight in a dorm. Maybe that's not Kennesaw enough. FYI, the GT President, and other Univ. of Georgia Presidents, are adamantly against guns on campus.
