What Is the Biggest Issue for You in the 2012 Presidential Election?

Now that we are in the final stretch with two clear choices, what will be key in deciding how you cast your ballot in November?

We now know exactly what our choices are in November. On one hand, we have incumbent President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Challenging them, we have the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan ticket as potential presidential and vice presidential alternatives.

For the next almost three months, we are going to be bombarded with facts — some true, many slightly skewed and some outright lies. That's always been the case. But the one thing that can't be argued, is it is two clearly different choices. While many of the issues are going to be debated in a public forum, a vote is a very personal matter. It usually comes down to how things impact the voter directly and not necessarily a big issue that might get a lot of discussion.

So what issue is likely to have an influence on your vote in November? As a provider for your family, will it be the economy? As a person without employment or insecure about a job, will that be the biggest issue? As a business owner, are you looking for some help going forward? As an elderly person, will it be concerns about security in your twilight years or as a parent, is it the future of your children that you are most concerned about? These and several other issues will be hotly debated between now and Nov. 6.

Our question is, what is the biggest issue that will influence your vote in November? Tell us in comments.

Democrats had TWO YEARS in the White House, Senate and House. $850 Billion dollars wasted on a failed stimulus and all you can do is blame the little house republicans for not agreeing to anymore non sense. Why didn't we get jobs during those TWO YEARS? They found time to force the Deplorable Care Act on Americans that don't want it.

George said, "One third of that 850billion was tax cuts." Tax cuts are money that you don't collect in the first place. How you can count that as contributing to our debt escapes me. Do you have an article or reference from a credible, non-partisan source that I may read to better understand?

Ted- The way I see it, the government can create jobs that are paid for by the private sector. As a member of the private sector, and having watched too many government employees in "action", I can tell you I would rather hire my own employees than let the government do it.

Hate to be nitpicky, but you can't call lies facts. Second paragraph.

Debt is the big Issue: "America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better." - Obama 2006.

“Today I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay — and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.” Obama 2009

I agree with 2006 and 2009 Obama that 2012 Obama is a failure. Vote for anybody else or don't vote....please.

Failure is on the hands of everyone that holds a public office! Failure with our economy, is everyone that lives above there means! Failure is with every business owner who outsource! Failure is greed with our elected officials who seek success for there own agenda not for our country! The blood of failure is on a lot people hands not just President Obama! I will vote for Obama! By the way my life has not changed drastically with the failure of the economy because my husband and I live off one income, when he lost his job due to down sizing we were made it through the crisis, now he is working again life is less stressful, we choose to take charge of our own lives! My failure is own my shoulders!

The stimulus saved our collective asses. More would have been better. Debt only becomes a "problem" when you think of government as if it were a business. It is not. That way of looking at government is the root of most of today's problems, the biggest of which is the massive concentration of wealth. Did you know that between twenty and thirty trillion dollars in being held by Americans in overseas accounts? That number looks like this: $30,000,000,000,000.

Do you think it is patriotic to use our system of free enterprize and opportunity to create wealth for yourself and then hide that wealth it in another country? I think it's downright reprehensible and I resent being used as a cash cow by those in a position to siphon resources away from our great country.

Wow, really? We should have spent more? Holy crap, talk about having your head in the sand. The government can only stimulate temporarily, and then the effects are, if anything, diluted. Let people keep their money. It is OUR money, not the government's to decide as they will what they'd like to let us keep. And truthfully, people earned that money, they can put it where they want to. If you want to keep all your money here, and you think the government needs more, feel free to pony up. Just remember that every dollar you give them is your money. Not theirs....

To get out a message- our problem exists because of congressional decisions made decades ago! The robbery of Social Security to fund other government entitlement programs (Ponzi scheme on the grandest scale). The systematic fleecing of the American public's money, and trust, by out-of-touch professionial politicians bent on serving themselves and their "special interests'" pockets instead of making decisions for the good of "Joe America". We The People need to realize that swapping figurehead Presidents on term limits will NOT solve the problems caused by the decades of inept decision-making by our so-called representatives(House and Senate!). When this "good-ol' boy's club" get's put on term limits like the presidency, changes for the good of the people will start to happen, and fast! Of course our sitting "professionals" in Congress will NEVER vote themselves out of a cushy job with free travel, special health insurance, and lifetime benefits by passing such an amendment to the Constitution.- BUT WE CAN! Vote every 2 years in the congressional election for everyone not "incumbent" or running on a congressional term-limit platform, and in four years all the criminals in congress are gone. All the members who really want to do good for the country are left, and they are on a time-line to succeed before they get replaced. Setting term limits means rotation in Congress, thus more " for the people, by the people!" Anyone listening?

1) Economy - Wasteful spending of the Government on "fluff" - Over regulation of business impeding the recovery - Need for government to Prioritize the real needs of the US and not the Politically Correct Wants
2) National Security - Lack of Border control - Government Interference in the implementation of State and Federal laws that deal with those issues
3) Military Deployment - We don't need downsizing, we need a reality check on where and what our troops really need to be doing to protect our National Security
4) Energy Development - Get off the Property and use our Resources - The Govt has been telling us since the 70's that we need to get off the Foreign Oil - Quit stalling and do it. That doesn't mean that new energy sources can't be developed, just quit bankrupting the citizens in the government effort to "go green" Energy costs are the number one need for every citizen followed by food

George, I would cut any subsidy that govt gives to a private industry. Anytime the govt subsidizes a product or service it costs more. (Look at Healthcare and Higher Education.) You are correct that we spend more on the Military than anyone else. (That is why we are still here and some of them are not, it's also the reason France and England still exist) but we spend way more on entitlements than we do on defense. I would probably cut most of the regulations on business save the child labor laws and I would do away with the Minimum Wage. If you would like to wage your on personal boycott on Petroleum then I invite you to do so. Paul, I must agree with you only half-way. It is not just the democratic reps and senators who have promulgated this farce of a government. Lets do a historical survey of which congressmen wrote, introduced, funded, lobbied for, and voted for legislation that upped congressional salaries several times, provided extra-ordinary health benefits for life to any and all congress, and gives them benefits and immunities not allowed John Q. Public. Want to bet there are as many Republicans as Democrats? The issue we don't realize is that the majority of legislation on Capitol Hill is performed by"professional politicians" who are either the sons or daughters of the"big-money controlling class" waving their dollars in the twentys and thirtys to buy the decisions for personal gain, not the common good. Or they are the professionals bought and paid for by special interest groups intent on having legislation written for their gain since the 60s and 70s.. Either way, these "professional politicians" are not there for the good of the common man.

Biggest issue is not be hypocritical and vote a similar guy into office.

Romney has favored a constitutional amendment that says that no one can be president unless he or she has run a business in the private sector for three years.

So why did he pick a VEEP who, if the amendment passes, will not be eligible?

In other ways too, Ryan's voting record is pretty much like Obama's:

http://www.rlc.org/2012/08/11/the-paul-ryan-record/

It is almost as if Romney wants Obama to be his VEEP. Someone who supports RomneyCare.

This land is full of opportunity for all people. I wish more folks would listen to Herman Cain for a while give his testimony of his hard working family and the ethics that he was raised with and then take a hard look at the excuse macine. It won't look the same.

Electorals - Are moving swiftly. O- 237, R-206. But the toss-up states are Wisconsin, NV, IA, Fla and Colorado (where the feds have stepped in it multiple times and ticked people off). O took somes states before that are now leaning Republican. Senate races are turning into R's all over. may or may not be close. Time will tell (as long as people don't get sucked into the propaganda commercials). Never seen so much dirt and lies in any campaign in my life. All started with "hanging chads" - oooooooh, they MEANT to vote for Gore -hahahahaha. Once people swallowed that kool-aid, it seems that they craved more of it. They'll believe anything but the evidence in front of them. Speaking on evidence...GM is going bankrupt again. How's that stimulus (to save GM) that you'll be paying on forever going for ya? Should have listened.

Tammy, GM is nowhere near going bankrupt again. That is a well placed rumor that has been circulated around the right wing blogosphere and nothing more. The entire US auto industry had a crappy second quarter due a soft European market.

I’m sure CM missed some group to tick off in her list, but hey, we only get so many characters…

No... to be fair, Mr. Obama didn’t fail just like Jimmy Carter...
He may just have EXCEEDED the NEED beyond all expectations.

Jimmy may have been misguided or a poor chooser of staff during his tenure. He may have rammed the Panama Canal treaty down our collective throats. I don’t recall Executive privilege being claimed though.

(With a brother like Billy I know I would have)

He did set the stage for every following President, regardless of party, with the Israel Egypt peace accords. And to this day, no one since has achieved the same level of success. (Though LORD knows we've meddled so it aint for lack of tryin)The country didn't get DOWNGRADED in its rating during his term. He didn't get a Treausy Sec that couldn't file his OWN taxes, he knew what the meaning of "is" is.

While some of the economic issues / jobless rates parallel, we have NOT seen the gas lines, we haven’t yet SEEN the interest rate and INFLATION damage or the IRANIAN incident that tumbled Jimmy’s Presidency.

When that day finally flys in and ROOSTS, Jimmy will fade from the annals he now infamously holds and Barry will take the shrine he so rightly qualifies for…

If we could all, just once again, happen to talk with AMY over breakfast about Nuclear Disarmament…

It would signal the return of Morning in AMERICA!

So much for the “Thrill up one’s leg” eh?

I love a spirited debate & that is why I hosted one for Gwinnett county voters. I held 4 jobs, took 21 hours, was a UGA Dean's List GRAD. I did rupture my back, requiring surgery, while working as a photographer, for a major photo company! SORRY Evelyn but I DO HAVE THE PROOF. I worked for my scars & honors! You are correct in the fact the Obama did take over Bush's job, just like Bush took over Clintons mess on day 1 of his presidency. Each new president takes the good, bad, & ugly from the president before him. Most lead. ODUMA blamed. I believe, we the people, get what we have because we have not voted the high spending, job hugging, I got mine, politicians out of office when we have a chance. Vote out the other state's guy but NOT my guy! HOG WASH. We could fix this whole mess is we put in an amendment to the constitution that reads, "NO ELECTED OFFICIAL MAY RUN FOR RE-ELECTION IF THE HOUSE & SENATE DOES NOT PASS A BALANCED BUDGET DURING HIS TERM IN OFFICE" Wish I could take credit but, it is enough that I just pass it along to educated voters. 40% are left. 40% are right. 20% will decide whom is our next president. I would keep some of the ODUMA care but as we all know it will bankrupt the country. We will still pay for those who will not pay for their own coverage. Foolish! For those of you who can't understand how an intelligent person could vote for ODUMA, now you can see how Hitler came to power! Hitler hated the Jews, Obama hates the rich! Class Warfare

So what you have a degree I have one too! Focus on the issues not individuals.... If Romney wins let me know if things get better. Doubtful! Obama 2012! All of a sudden the opinions of the wealthiest self made men don't count right. Buffet said he has never made business decisions based on a bill or tax rate or government incentive. Henry Ford, the Carnegies, the Kennedys, or Rockefellers never tried to buy our government.

OH EVELYN, you make me laugh. But the facts are that liberals will demand specifics & when confronted with them them change the subject! No matter how many facts I may provide, you will never accept any of them as fact! Just ask Mr Brian, he will tell you I refuse to supply any facts to liberals because THEY WILL NOT EVER BELIEVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT THEIR LEADERS SPOON FEED THEM! It is a sickness that most liberals have caught! Clinton and the word down should never be used in the same sentence. He took this country & covered it with vulgarity and then used it to keep himself in office. The more the right was offended and outraged the more he became a pathetic victim of his own actions & gained by it! Stop the blame & lets get our country back on track with new visions, new leadership & new ideas. ODUMA had his time & he will be remembered by millions that used to be hard working middle class citizens that wound up on food stamps and lost their homes. If you had a good investment broker, you should have made back your stock money by now. Everyone my husband handled has, so the problem is still the mindset that the government will spend us out of this mire. Government jobs are a necessary evil in today's society but it is the man & woman who start their own business & hire people that makes America great! Time to choose a new direction. Time to make a new decision. Time to vote for R&R. Time for a little rest and relaxation for the weary. Educate yourself and VOTE

It is amazing that the board of directors and the Chamber of commerce are finding issue with the US corporate tax rate. So they can off shore to "SOCIALIST" countries with lower tax rates that subsidies their worker with healthcare and six weeks paid vacation. Which in turn is subsidized again by the American tax payer. via military. Wake up?.... right. More like a sleeping sickness.

Jim- Maybe if we had lower tax rates here corporations would not go off-shore?
What amazes me is that if a guy makes $30K per year and pays, say, 10% in tax, he is paying $3,000./year in tax. If a guy making $300K per year pays the same rate (10%), he will pay $30,000/year in tax.
Now, stay with me here. Even though the "rich" guy is paying three times more tax than the "not rich" guy, we, for some reason, do not think that is enough.
So, the government decided that the more money you made, the HIGHER your tax rate should be (has been that way for many, many years). Why? Because the America government wants to do things it cannot afford. Though the "rich" guy was already paying THREE times more tax than the "not rich" guy, he now has to pay a higher percentage, because he is successful.
I don't give a darn what anybody says, that is highway robbery.
Now, the government wants to put the screws to successful people even more. Holy cow, successful people are already being robbed, now they want to rape him too. As a free man, why would he put up with such atrocity?

Mr B, The Hitler reference offers a look into the future by viewing the past. The saying goes, "We are doomed to repeat the past if we do not learn from it! Hitler raised his followers with their hate of Jews. Odume is using class warfare, against the rich, (anyone who has the brains to save for their future by putting away money in their companies 401K programs) to get re elected. He has no record so, he must use hate to get back into the White House. No record? His hate of the rich has been bred into him from his mentors. Workers are now being labeled RICH! Sounds like socialism to me! Treating one class of people for their specific group traits differently is racism. It is really self hate. Look above at the jobs he has held as proof of his qualifications for becoming a president. Wrote 2 books? Terry Bradshaw should be president, I enjoyed his book! As for being a congressman & senator, come on, who wants to use those dishonors as a reason to vote for someone, maybe 50 years ago but today few are statesmen, most are simply politicians. I will give you credit for him being a teacher, teachers get no deserved credit or deserved pay so WHAT DID HE TEACH and WHERE did he teach and for how long did he teach? Inquiring minds want to know. We will be paying for him for the next 40 years whether or not he is reelected. GEE wonder which of his past "careers" he will go back to.... senator or teacher? LOL, I just kill myself sometimes - even this early in the morning!

Though Romney would not be my first choice I have to ask myself, "Has the election of Obama worked?""Are my fellow Americans and I better off?"
The answers:
No, it has not worked, at all. If Obama were a mechanic, his customer's car would be stranded on the side of the road during rush hour.
No, my fellow Americans and I are not better off, we are worse off.
It would be best to go to a new shop, but we can't, so I am going to at least request a different mechanic. I need my car to go to work.

Getting back to the original question:
1. Offer incentives for American companies to hire American workers. The American Dream died when companies were allowed to move their businesses to other countries.
2. Offer honest diplomacy in debates, not party lines and empasse. How could a president succeed when Congress vowed to make him a one term leader.
3. Enforce our borders, by whatever means necessary, against all intruders. Bring our troops home to defend American interests in the United States, not abroad.
4. Offer businesses the promise of stability so they can forecast their future and start hiring and growing. Nobody wants to spend when they don't know how much they will be taxed.
These are the things I want to see in the next year. Anything less, and we will have riots in the streets. What is this voting stuff going on? If you are an American, you have the right to vote...Period.

Come on everybody. Stop with the "(your political favorite) is the cause of this economic mess" or "(your political favorite) hasn't solved this economic mess".

Step back and look at it. This mess did not just happen in one day, week or year. Economic policies (and lack there of) from both political parties in US and others around the world caused this. Economists warned for years we were living on BORROWED $'s and time.

This has been the worse economic event since the "Great Depression" and maybe even the "Long Depression" (look it up). FDR and policies of the 30's and early 40's did little to change the situation, and it finally took the mobilization of the US manufacturing for WW-II to get us out of the depression. I've heard where learned economists are saying 5-7 more years before the economy will recover to the levels prior to our current event.

Keep these targeted labels "Socialists" (extreme far left) and "Facists" (extreme far right) to a minimum, as they only cause anger in others and get us nowhere. Besides, if you think our country is sliding towards socialism or facisism, maybe take a harder look at what countries that have been in those situations really experienced, and I think history will show you we are a long way from there.

Why are we always citing these countries corporate tax treatment? Then fail to leave out they loan us money on the cheap, state sponsor rhymes with sma-smortion, subsidize healthcare to all their citizens, take 6 week vacations, make inferior products, never sent a person to the moon, allow homosexuals to marry and openly serve their nation, offer a better education that cost less per pupil yet those highly educated student fail to produce an original anything.

I think we will be in a bad place if we do not require our politicians to tell the truth. We have to stop being so busy that we take a 20 second sound bite as the truth, and follow every word that our favorite media person utters. Remember, they want you to keep listening, it makes the advertisers happy. Turn off CNN and watch more CSPAN. Ignore the Rachels and Rushs of the world and listen to the politicians. And..remember what they have said from one campaign to the next. Google is a wonderful tool for tracing back to the last speech.

Here's a chilling thought. Remember how before 911, al quada had a lot of dry runs justs to see how we would handle it? Clinton treated all of them as crimes, not acts of war. I saw just after this assassination on our Ambassador how this president handles it. I also saw how Romney handled it. He did not apologize for the movie but defended the person's right to do it, stating that all of our citizens have constitutional rights. I wish we had someone who understood our enemies. They see it as a sign of weakness when we apologize. It is a part of their culture. Our culture sees it as a sign of being a bigger person, but they don't. I want someone who will stand up for us, not apologize. I've already seen a few articles done by muslim writers that say that very thing, thatto them it is an admission of guilt. They know how they operate. What scares me, is, will obama run for shelter and let the rest of us fend for ourselves? His character has shown that in the past year.
David, it appears that praying for him has not changed his heart. We are commanded to do so. We can be obedient to that while still paying attention to what's going on around us. Apostle Paul, I'm sure, prayed for the leaders in the book of Acts, but he also criticized what they did. They needed to hear the truth. And i know I will be criticized fopr mentioning that we have enemies across the pond, but in the bible, they prepared for war and knew their enemy. In fact, there is scripture to that as well.

Jim S. - that sounds like a great plan. That's the way people should be discussing these issues on here. I had a boss once who said, "Don't come into my office and tell me what's wrong around here." Then he added, "But, if you do, you'd better have a plan of action in your hand. Then, we'll sit down and talk".

Jim Stephenson, I wish everyone on here would come to the table with a solution in their hands instead of calling names and crucifying someone when they dare to mention things that are true. Some of the words that Cynthia mentioned came from the mouths of democrats so I wish the pot stirrers would stop calling her a racist - that was a quote-from a democrat. Her point was that they say these things yet the accusers don't call out their own.
Anyway, I used to work for a boss that said, "Don't come to me and tell me everything that you think is wrong around here. I won't listen. However, if you come to me with a problem and have a plan of action in your hand, then we can talk". And sure enough, there were those that continued to stir up trouble around there, griping and groaning about every little thing, But then there was me, in his office, talking about some ideas to make it better. I'm a good employee- lol. I had a vision like he did for that program, and we ended up beig one of the best. I just wish people would sit down at the table (and on forums like this) and do that. It makes sense that our gov't. needs to stop making it difficult to have a business in our country. In 2012, I'd like to see that change. Businesses create jobs. Working people create revenue to the gov't., and stimulate the economy. It's simple economics. But one side screams when that is said because their side didn't say it, but would admit it if their side did. Childish is what it is.

Ahh! lets face it, it you don't like the comments of another person the best way to show your distain is to call them a RACIST! I am over that! There is a black in the White House, black colleges, black movie stars making millions, black prime time reporters, and TV talk show leaders (Oprah, Michael Straehan, Jim Brown and hundreds more) so what is it about being black that is still bothersom. Others in the black race have decided to stop listening to the "The MAN has us down!" talk from black leaders & went ahead & worked hard like other Americans have and they have their life right where they dreamed it could be. It is a person's personal drive that make a person successful. It seem strange to me that those from south of the border, steal into this country, don't speak the language, work 7 days a week at low paying jobs, teach their children that education is the way out, & within ONE generation they own their own businesses, homes, cars and are sending their children to college. I no longer have any pity for those that want to cry "Racist" and "Foul" for still being on the government teat for generation after generation. You either want a quality life and are willing to work for it or you have personal weaknesses that you allow to keep you in a place of weakness. It is time to get off the government teat and become a man or woman and control your destiny. But lets face it Obama is trying his best to load up the system with persons of weak character 4 votes!
