Weekend Planner: Full of Holiday Cheer

Here is our pick of holiday-inspired activities going on in or around Oconee County this weekend.

 

1. FIRST FRIDAY ON MAIN: CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

Where/When: Downtown Watkinsville at 6 p.m. on Friday

Why Go: To celebrate the joy of the season and the culmination of the 2011 season of First Friday events with the tree lighting. There will even be a visit from Santa. 

Pricing: Free.  Participants are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.

 

2. OCAF HOLIDAY MARKET 2011

Where/When: Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation on Friday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday,  Dec. 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: To buy unique gifts for the holidays from over 80 local and regional artists and craftsmen.

Pricing: $3 for adults; free for children

 

3. PANCAKE BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

Where/When: Friendship Presbyterian Church on Highway 441 at 7:30 a.m.

Why Go: For a chance to visit with the Big Guy and support Watkinsville Boy Scout Troop 149's annual fundraiser.

Pricing: $6 for ages 11 and up; $4 for ages 4 to 10; free for ages 3 and under

 

4. DEPOT HOLIDAY FESTIVAL

Where/When: Farmington Depot Gallery on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: The festival will be jam-packed with handmade creations, holiday cheer and yummy foods.

Pricing: Free

 

5. WATKINSVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE

Where/When: Downtown Watkinsville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3

Why Go: To see 118 floats decorated with the theme "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" and donate to the Area Churches Together Serving Food Bank. The event is organized by The Oconee Enterprise.

Pricing: American Pest Control and The Oconee Enterprise are asking participants to please bring at least 10 cans of food to donate; spectators please bring 5 cans.
