Watkinsville Man Charged with Burglarizing Home of Elderly Woman

A cut on the man's hand helped pin him to the scene of the crime, authorities say

 

A Watkinsville man who authorities say likely injured himself while breaking a glass window in order to burglarize the home of an 83-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday.

The victim told deputies when she returned to her house in the 7500 block of Macon Highway on March 14 just after midnight, she found her back door damaged and "large amounts of blood both inside of and outside of her residence," according to a news release from the .

Chief Deputy Lee Weems said he couldn't go into details at this time, but information and evidence led investigators to a home on Moreland Heights Road where they located a man with large cuts on his hand and wrist.

James Ricky McDaniel, 54, was taken into custody and charged with one count of burglary. McDaniel was treated for his injuries by medical staff at the jail, according to Weems.
