Walton County Deputy Charged With DUI

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies arrested jail deputy Chanla M. Adler on July 22, 2012. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A Watkinsville woman employed by the Walton County Sheriff's Office was charged with DUI in Oconee County following a traffic stop on July 22.

According to an incident report on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to investigate a domestic disturbance that reportedly occurred earlier in the evening.   As part of the investigation, deputies pulled over the driver of a black Chevy Tahoe around 10 p.m. on Union Church Road.

One of the deputies wrote in the report that he detected the odor of alcohol while speaking with the driver which led him to conduct sobriety tests. Chanla Maejean Adler, 41, was charged with DUI.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Adler works as a jailer in Walton County.  Sheriff Joe Chapman told the newspaper that if convicted, Adler could be at risk of losing her job.
