Victim in Fatal Accident Identified As Oconee Man Reported Missing Last Week

The body of missing UGA student Quinton Ayers was discovered Monday in his vehicle in Gwinnett County, Ga.

The victim in a single car fatality accident on Highway 316 near Harbins Road has been identified as that of Quinton Ayers, who was reported missing last week, according to Fox 5 News.

Ayers, a UGA student, was last seen in Athens around 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. His last cell phone activity was traced to a location near the Gwinnett County Airport.

His vehicle was discovered approximately 40 feet off the roadway.

"It was resting on its side and appeared to have hit a tree at significant speed," said Gwinnett County Police public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith in a released statement.

Smith added that the vehicle was spotted by a passing tractor trailer driver who was able to make out the truck's undercarriage due to his elevated position.

At this time, police do not believe any other vehicles were involved and do not have any information regarding how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the accident or whether alcohol was involved.

Highway 316 was shut down for several hours while police investigated the crash and reopened just before 10 p.m.

This is a Mother's worst nightmare. I am praying for his poor Mother, who lives in Watkinsville, and the rest of his family and friends. Another victim of 316.
