U.S. Rep. Paul Broun to Face Republican Challenger in 2012

A businessman and retired Army officer will run against U.S. Rep. Paul Broun next year in District 10.

Stephen Simpson, a businessman and retired Army officer, will go up against U.S. Rep. Paul Broun in the 2012 Republican primary.

Simpson made his plans official on Sunday in a news release, according to the Athens Banner-Herald

Simpson's campaign headquarters are located in Milledgeville, but he has lived in Macon outside of current 10th Congressional district lines for several years, according to the article.

State lawmakers drew new lines in August removing sections north of Athens  and extending the boundaries to metro Atlanta and middle Georgia, including Barrow and Walton counties. The new district lines will become official in 2012 if approved by federal courts.

In September, when Simpson first announced an interest in running, he told the Athens Banner-Herald he would likely move to Athens or nearby once he decides to run.

Woot!
Hopefully Mr Simpson will offer us a valid opportunity to elect someone that represents US and is truly interested in less intrusive government

I've known Sandy (Rep. Broun) my whole life. Our parents were friends. Sandy and I were at Barrow School together -- and ran with the same crowd out of school. More recently, before the lady died, he was my 94-year-old mother's doctor. Mother (and all of us) appreciated his house calls and bedside manner. I still like him as anyone likes an old, childhood friend. But he apparently lost his mind at some point. I have asked him about this. Naturally, he does not think he is crazy. (Actually, I don't think I am really crazy, either -- but, of course, never ask the person who's in question!) I do not know what has turned Rep. Broun into what he has become. I have listened on two separate evenings to his telephone chats with voters around his district. In this setting, he shows that he is obviously intelligent. And caring... He also does not sound like a nut. But when he goes to Washington, something comes over him. Let's bring him back home to Georgia permanently so that he can relax and enjoy his retirement, along with his other aging classmates. Sending him back to DC will be bad for him and for us.
