Retired Oconee County principal Tom Odom has been elected chairman of the Oconee County Board of Education, according to unofficial returns.
Odom defeated current board Vice Chairman Mike Hunter, who vacated his seat in order to run for chairman. Mike Burnette was unopposed in the open Post 4 seat.
With 13 of 13 precincts reporting, Odom took 54 percent of the vote -- 4,643 votes to Hunter's 3,931.
The results still need to be certified.
