Update Friday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. : The Sheriff's Office reports the suspect is in custody. More details to follow.

A Wal-mart security guard says he struggled with a shoplifting suspect who threatened him with a knife before fleeing on foot from the Epps Bridge Parkway store Wednesday.

It happened around 9:30 a.m., according to an incident report on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.   The loss prevention officer told deputies he witnessed the man exit the store with two cases of 36 cans of beer, turn around, re-enter the store and set the cases down.  When he confronted the man, the guard says a struggle ensued and the man pulled out a folding pocket knife and threatened him with it.

The man then fled from the store, ran through the parking lot toward Murphy's gas station, crossed Epps Bridge Parkway and ran into the area of Pine Ridge Court, the guard said.

Deputies combed the area but did not locate the suspect.  He is described as a white male between 25-30 years of age with short brown or dirty blonde hair, 150-180 lbs and 5'7"- 5'8." He was wearing glasses, baggy blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a grey t-shirt with the word "engineering" on the back, according to Sheriff Scott Berry.

Last week the same loss prevention officer reported he'd been bitten by a man he accused of shoplifting digital cameras.  Two arrests were made in that case.

You need to delete that last picture - it exposes the security guard's face!

Hi Teresa,
I just checked with the Sheriff's Office and the chief deputy tells me this is not a concern. The photo is also posted on the Sheriff's Office Facebook Page.

Wal-Mart and other massive chain stores have played a great roll in deaths and arrests in Georgia with their sales of beer and wine. They create crime and the taxpayers are forced to foot the bill for the arrests. The store extracts money from the people and leaves the people to bury the dead and pay the jail costs. Wal-Mart, Engles, Publix,Walgreens, Eckerds, and the liquor stores are parasites upon a community and like dracula they drain wealth and life from the people while leaving the people dead, injured, or in prison. Their power controls government and turns government to killing and destroying lives for them. Women they employ are simply bartenders sending out debased people to destroy their own children.

A liquor license is murder to attain money. A liquor license is a coat of arms of bad voter citizenship and destructive government.Governor Deal, the legislature, and the mothers of Georgia are to blame for surrendering the state to the mercy of the massive interstate chain stores and enslaving the people to be killed and homes to be robbed of its members, especially at Christmas.

Billy Joel Parker,
WOW! I guess you are advocating prohibition again. History shows that prohibition made a few millionaires with great political power also. The Kennedy clan ring a bell?
A lot of lives were also lost during that time in history. Maybe if you fought to take the high taxes off alcohol sales the government might have a little less interest to see the sales flourish.....just a thought. You ever wonder what those alcohol taxes are used for? Educate yourself a little on this subject. Might be an eye opener! :)
