Suspect From Oconee Crash Apprehended in Athens
The car involved in Saturday night's accident near the Oconee Connector had been reported stolen out of Monroe, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
Oconee County deputies Monday arrested a man they say crashed a stolen car near the Oconee Connector and fled the scene late Saturday night.
Charleston Jamal Croffie, 21, was taken into custody at Parkview Homes in Athens on Monday afternoon after investigators received a tip that he was there, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.
Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office issued an alert that a man had fled from a deputy who tried to pull him over for speeding. The car crashed at the intersection of Daniels Bridge and Mars Hill roads and the suspect fled the scene on foot. K-9s were brought in to assist with the search and the Sheriff's Office issued a lookout for Croffie shortly afterward.
Investigators later learned the BMW that Croffie was driving had been stolen out of Monroe, the newspaper reported. In Oconee County, he'll be charged with fleeing, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and other violations, according to the article.

The sad part about this story is Charleston didn't get run over by a Mack Truck on the Oconee Connector...would have been a great ending to the story.......

So, he did not steal the car, he just did not ask her if he could take it. Uh....ok.....so if I take your car without asking, it's not stealing? Oh...wait...I think I get it......if you steal from your mother it's not stealing. Ok, I get it now.
