Steady Stream of Shoppers at Stripling's General Store on Opening Day

"You Never Sausage a Place!"

That's the motto of Stripling's General Store, and indeed it's a unique and -- considering all the excitement surrounding its opening-- welcome addition to Oconee County.

Sausage proved to be a common link between avid Stripling's shoppers and new customers alike. It's what Athens resident Al Queen purchased on his first-ever trip to Stripling's Monday.

"I like sausage and that's what I'm after," he said. "I'll be back."

Annie Broach from the Monroe area visited the original Cordele store "years and years ago."  As she shuffled out of the store with sausage in tote yesterday, she said she's glad the new store is closer to home.

Other customers were quick to post about their shopping experience on social media.

"Just got Back from Striplings,Oconee county Location, New Opening today, Awesome Place. Great Meats, Sausage, Jams, Jellys, Its a great all around country store," one man wrote on the store's Facebook Page

"It's been very busy," said manager Caroline Camp, daughter of owners Jimmy and Andrea Camp. "We had four people waiting outside at 6 a.m."

Her parents had been eyeing the corner of Hog Mountain Road and Monroe Highway for awhile and think it's a prime spot for the business, said Camp.  In particular, they're hoping to draw in UGA football traffic.

Bulldog fans shopping for Homecoming tailgate party supplies this Saturday will get an extra treat: Buckhead Beef will be on site providing samples, Camp said.

Stripling's General Store is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-6 p.m.  Plans are in the works for a grand opening to be held around the beginning of the new year, Camp said.
