GBI Completes Facial Reconstruction of Dismembered Man's Skull -- Dacula Patch
Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man whose remains were found in two different locations in Buford.
Earlier this month, Gwinnett County Police Department homicide investigators and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiners Office determined that a set of remains found in a wooded area near the Mall of Georgia in early January match a dismembered torso found in July 2009.
According to a GCPD press release, the medical examiner believes the remains are likely those of a Hispanic adult male between 20 and 40 years of age.
Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact the Gwinnett County Police Homicide Unit at 770-513-5300 or 770-513-5700.
Snellville Woman Charged in Attempted Toys for Tots Scam --Loganville-Grayson Patch
Amber Nicole Dowell, 31, of Snellville, was expected to turn herself in to Gwinnett County Police Wednesday on charges relating to a fraudulent attempt to obtain toys from the Buford distribution center of Toys for Tots in December.
Dowell had lost her position as president of the West Walton Park Football and Cheerleading Booster Club in November after she was charged with several charges of credit card fraud connected to funds missing from the club. She is accused of passing herself off as still being a representative of the club in an attempt to obtain $5,000 worth of toys from Toys for Tots.
Dowell is facing charges of criminal attempt and financial identity fraud in this case, on top the charges she is already facing in connection to the alleged theft from the booster club. She was out on bond of $5,700 on each of three charges in connection with the earlier theft at the time of the Toys for Tots attempted scam.
Starbucks to Start Selling Alcohol in Some Atlanta Area Stores -- Lawrenceville Patch
You soon may be able to get a different kind of brew at your neighborhood Starbucks. The coffee company announced this week they will begin selling beer and wine at stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest by the end of 2012.
Starbucks has not yet identified the locations yet, however there will be four to six shops serving alcohol in the Atlanta area later this year. They will also serve premium food such as savory snacks, small plates and hot flatbreads.
Seattle-based Starbucks says they've seen great success after introducing beer and wine to a location in its hometown in 2010. There are now five stores in the Seattle area and one in Portland, Oregon serving alcohol in addition to coffee and tea.
