Robbery Suspect Killed in I-75 Chase – Canton-Sixes Patch

A suspect who allegedly robbed a Woodstock convenience store Sunday morning was shot and killed by police on Interstate 75 near the North Marietta Parkway, leaving southbound traffic jammed for most of Sunday afternoon.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the unnamed suspect led Cobb and Cherokee law enforcement on a chase from a Marathon station on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock and down I-75, to just south of the North Marietta Parkway. 

Police stopped the vehicle there, and the suspect aimed his gun at officers, who shot and killed him.

Police Investigating Whether Murder, Shooting Incident Are Connected – Stone Mountain Patch

The City of Stone Mountain Police Department is investigating whether two incidents are related: a murder on Aug. 31 at The Lakes Apartments, and a gunshot victim being dropped off at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur within the same time frame of the murder.

According to Stone Mountain City police, they responded to a person shot call on Friday, Aug. 31 at the apartment complex located at 5100 W. Mountain St., where they found Darius Myles Grays, 34, killed by a single gunshot to the lower abdomen.

School Calendar to Stop Summer Brain Drain? – Tucker Patch

A group of DeKalb County's teachers, principals, and parents met yesterday, Sept. 4, to develop multiple calendar options for the 2013-14 school year. 

Among the options under consideration is a “balanced calendar,” which will reduce the summer break by two weeks and include an additional week of vacation each semester. 

Another possibility is a weekly “early release” to allow for additional professional development for teachers.
