Photo Contest: Is Your Dog The Top Dog?
Upload a photo of your favorite four-legged family member and your pet could vie to become The Top Dog in Georgia!
Readers - the entry period for this contest has closed. Please come back later this week to vote on the finalists! - The Editor
Everyone knows their dog is the best.
Now, Patch is giving you the chance to prove it with our Top Dog contest.
Entering is simple:
Starting Aug. 6, upload your favorite photo of your dog by clicking the "Upload Photos and Video" button at the top of this article. (It’s super easy – just make sure you are a registered user first). In the caption, tell us your dog’s name and what makes him or her so special. One photo per owner, please.
Dog owners will have until 5 p.m. Aug. 20 to submit a photo of a canine companion.
Five furry finalists will be selected by Patch Regional Editors and then you, dear readers, will get to vote on who is the Top Dog in Georgia.
The prize? A $100 gift card and some cool Patch swag for fido's owner.
We've attached the legal rules to this article in a PDF. And please make note that the winner must agree to be featured in an article on Patch.
It only seems fitting to celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with a contest devoted to Man's Best Friend. So take a moment to share a photo of your dog and join in the fun!

Seriously? Where is pet of the day? Dogs/cats need exposure from cobb co animal control. We need to share them so folks know they need out or will be euthanized and ccac always prefers/work hard for them to get out. Help by sharing them as u did and not doing silly articale on who has top dog. Not when pets in GA die by the hundreds every single day in GA alone!!! Please.....do pet of the day every day! Thank you.

Tisha,
we post every week a profile of a dog, a cat and, often, a bunny, needing adoption. This is just a way for people to celebrate their canine companions. Athens Patch continues to support those who work to find forever homes for animals. Thanks for posting, and for caring about animals.

Hi, Tisha-
As Rebecca points out, most of our Georgia Patch sites post Pet of the Week columns. And many have played a key role in getting the word out when someone's pet has gone missing, helping to reunite lost pets with their owners.
We also make it easy for rescue groups to post whenever they want to get the word out about dogs and cats (and other critters) who need forever homes. If you are involved with a rescue group, please know that all you need to do is to click the News tab at the top of the page, then select the Announcements page and click 'Add an Announcement.' There is no charge for this service!
Thanks for reading Patch.

What if people mentioned in their comment whether or not their pet is a rescue dog?
Does everything have to be a cause? Can't we just have a little fun?

Tisha -
I am a volunteer with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, and formerly the director for the cat adoption program. The Johns Creek Patch proactively reached out to us prior to the first edition to ask if we would like to submit featured rescued pets each week. As time went by, other community Patch editions in North Metro Atlanta have picked up these stories. Angels volunteers have submitted descriptions and photos of over a hundred animals since the publication's inception, and as a result many have found great homes through these promotions. The editors of these online publications have also been very generous about running articles on special topics, such as helping to educate readers about the much dreaded "kitten seasons" and the need for people to spay and neuter their animals.
I think it's great that the Patch is giving readers the opportunity to submit photos of their dogs and to help them celebrate the role that these pets play in their lives. We also appreciate all they have done to help us find forever families for our homeless animals.

I look forward to seeing all this photos this month of the special dogs and puppies that will be entered in the contest and appreciate your profiling the animals who are looking for their forever homes. After the top dog has been announced, how about another contest for our favorite felines?

Yes, how about "equal representation" for us cat people? ;>)

As the proud owner of two cats and two dogs, I think this is an interesting idea. We'll consider it!

I'm bi-petual too, although at the moment I only have cats, so I guess I could be considered a feline sympathizer. :)

Why is is always about dogs? there are tons of us with cats...and sometimes some with tons of cats...yikes! But seriously, I don't have a dog. I do have cats and they are just as cute, just as loving and loyal, just as much a best friend, and just as much worthy of a prize. Heck, why not open it up to any type of pet...we love all our furry friends...even those that aren't so furry. Top dog...top cat...top bunny...top snake...top rat, mouse, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, ferret, fish. Think outside the yard, box...pin...crate...cage...aquarium.

Folks,
Let's stick to commenting about dogs and pet ownership in this thread. I will delete comments and suspend the user accounts of folks who attack other readers.
Thanks for keeping things civil!

So many cute dogs! It's going to be tough for the Regional Editors to narrow the list down! But I still think my sister's dog-- aka my 4-legged niece-- Bear is the cutest.

I think the photos should be viewed objectivey, adding your dog is a rescue etc... is like trying to bribe a judge.

Everybody has their opinion. As a photographer and web marketer, I think a photo contest should be on the subject, quality of the photo, and virility. The latter being most important for generating revenue for a site like patch.com. Just my opinion though....

David I appreciate your opinion. I'm also a published photograper. Sometimes local photo contests are just about having fun. I fully understand the importance of quality, but these are just fun snapshots.

All of our dogs are rescues, every dog we've had has been a rescue. We're on 12, 13, and 14 right now. I guess I can't enter them because some people are afraid of the backstory. Dogs, cats, there are plenty that need forever homes.

I love the idea of this fun contest as a way to show off our canine family members! Although I'm not a cat person, I also agree (and hope) that at some point Patch will do the same for our feline families. And maybe at some point something for our "Pocket Pets" too?
Thanks!
