Oconee Today -- Nov. 14

A new Watkinsville council member will be sworn in at a meeting this evening. See what else there is to know in and around Oconee today.

 

Weather: Cooler temperatures are expected today with a high of 54. The Weather Channel predicts mostly cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance of rain.

Top things to know:

  • Local government officials this afternoon will meet with Georgia General Assembly members who will discuss the upcoming legislative session.  The meetings begins at 1:30 p.m. inside the Community Meeting Room at Oconee Veterans Park.
  • Just one week ago Connie Massey learned she'd won her bid for Watkinsville Council, and at a meeting tonight she'll be sworn in and immediately begin her duties.  The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center.
  • Nov. 11-17 has been designated "American Education Week," and each day has a special theme. Today is "Education Support Professionals Day."  At a meeting of the Oconee County School Board Monday, a proclamation was read in honor of the observance.  It is attached to this article as a pdf.
