Oconee Today -- May 8

A public hearing on the proposed 2013 fiscal year budget for Oconee County takes place this evening. See what else there is to know.

 

Weather: Thunderstorms are likely today, mainly in the afternoon. We'll see cloudy skies and a high temperature around 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Rain will continue into the evening and overnight with lows in the low 60s.

Top things to know:

  • The Oconee County Board of Commissioners hold a public hearing on the proposed 2013 Fiscal Year Budget at 6:30 p.m. in the courthouse. Commissioners then meet in a regular session at 7 p.m. On the agenda is consideration of the Georgia Department of Transportation Contract Addendum for Acquisition of Right of Way for the Mars Hill project. The Board will also consider making a 3-year appointment to the Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission.  The complete draft of tonight's agenda is attached as a pdf.
  • You won't want to miss the Oconee County Middle School band in concert at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center.  It's one of the last big events of the school year.
  • It's Spirit Night at Chicken Express. A percentage of sales this evening will benefit Oconee County Elementary and Oconee County Primary schools.
  • Speaking of concerts, the Georgia Children's chorus performs at UGA' Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall at 7 p.m.
