Oconee Today -- March 22

The community will gather for a candlelight vigil in memory of fallen Athens-Clarke Senior Police Officer Buddy Christian this evening.

 

Weather: Patches of early morning fog and  40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms are in today's Weather Channel's forecast. Highs are expected to be in the low 80s.

Top things to know:

  • Families in need of groceries can come to the parking lot of High Shoals Elementary School from 4-6 p.m. where the Connecting Point Church and the FoodBank of NEGA are hosting a mobile food panty.
  • The 5th Annual Chamber to Chamber Business After Hours takes place at The Georgia Club from 5:15 -7:15 p.m. Members from six area Chambers will mingle.  Pre-registration was required.
  • A candelight vigil to remember and honor the life and service of Athens-Clarke County SPO Buddy Christian, who was killed in the line of duty on March 22, 2011, will be held from 7:45-8:15 p.m. at the West Precinct of the Athens Clarke County Police, which is in Georgia Square Mall.
  • The UGA Opera Ensemble performs "The Many Faces of Divas" at 8 p.m. in the Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall.  The concert is free.
