Oconee Today -- Aug. 21

A Rotary Club meeting, free expo for seniors, and a swing dance night are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

 

Weather: The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms and highs in the mid 80s.

Top things to know:

  • Former member Kip Dominy is the guest speaker of today's meeting of the Oconee Rotary Club. He'll discuss a foundation that was set up in the name of his son who passed away as an infant. The meeting begins at 7 a.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center and includes a continental breakfast.  Guests are welcome at $5 a person.
  • The Athens Senior Resources Network presents a free Caregivers and Aging Resource Expo for Seniors from 3-7 p.m. at the Holiday on Broad Street in Athens, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
  • A high school softball game and volleyball matches are on scheduled for this afternoon.  The OCHS and NOHS volleyball teams travels to Morgan County and the OCHS softball team heads to North Gwinnett.
  • The UGA Swing Club hosts Swing Night at DanceFX on Milledge Avenue from 7:30 - 10 p.m. Cost to attend is $3 for students or $5 for non-students.
