Oconee Today -- Aug. 10

A luau, softball and Willie Nelson concert are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

 

Weather: The work week comes to a close with highs in the mid to upper 80s and a 30 percent chance of a scattered thunderstorm.  The Weather Channel predicts temperatures will drop into the mid 60s overnight.

Top things to know:

  • Westminster Christian Academy students head back to school today. It's the start of the 2012-12 school year.
  • Senior citizens will get a taste of Hawaii at a luau at the Oconee County Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Attendees are encouraged to wear festive clothing and come prepared to dance, play games, eat and have fun!
  • Geneology 101:The Basics is offered at the Oconee County Library from 12:30 - 2 p.m. Registration is required.
  • The Oconee County High School Lady Warrior varsity softball team travels to Madison County for a 7 p.m. game. The North Oconee Lady Titans also play an away game.  They take on Providence Christian Academy.
  • The one and only Willie Nelson comes to Athens for an 8 p.m. performance at the Classic Center Theatre.  Tickets may be purchased online.
