Oconee Today -- Aug. 1

Welcome, August.

Weather: We'll see partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 90s for the first day of August.  The Weather Channel predicts lows in the low 70s.

Top things to know:

  • It was to be a day of pre-planning, but offices and schools in the Oconee County School District are closed today for one of two system-wide furlough days that will be observed in the 2012-13 school year.
  • An exhibition of George Beattie’s Agriculture Murals is on display at the Georgia Museum of Art beginning now through Jan. 7, 2013.
  • Oconee County residents can play table tennis for $5 on Wednesday evenings at the Oconee Veterans Park from 6-9 p.m.
  • The Mystery Book Discussion group meets at the Oconee County Library at 7 p.m. The book featured in August is "Third Person Singular" by KJ Erickson.
