Oconee Today -- April 6

Spring break begins for Oconee County Schools.

 

Weather: High temperatures will be in the mid 70s.  The Weather Channel predicts mostly sunny skies and light and variable winds.

Top things to know:

1.Relgious Holidays:

Good Friday --the day that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death-- is observed by Christians today. Here are some of the services taking place in the area:

Passover -- the 8-day holiday commemorating the Jews' escape from slavery in Egypt-- begins at 6 p.m. (sundown) and lasts through April 14 this year.

2. It's a furlough day for Oconee County Schools teachers and the start of Spring Break for students. Classes resume Monday, April 16.  Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

3. The Grace Temple Ladies Choir will give a special music performance at the Oconee County Senior Center starting at 11 a.m.

4. It's your last chance to weigh in on your favorite tax preparer in this week's Readers' Choice.  Voting closes at 9 a.m.

5. You won't want to miss the opening reception and awards ceremony for Southworks: National Juried Art Exhibition at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation. It takes place from 6-8 p.m.
