Oconee Today -- April 17

Tax Day is upon us. Plus, the Criterion Referenced Competency Tests begin for 3rd-8th graders at Oconee County Schools.

Weather: The Weather Channel predicts scattered thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.  Some may have the potential to become severe.  The high will be around 80 degrees.

Top things to know:

  • Tax Day has arrived. 2011 tax forms must be filed with the Internal Revenue Service or extensions need to be requested by midnight.  E-filing is an option for many.  If mailing returns, they need to be postmarked by today's date.  Check out some last-minute tips and information about how to file an extention, if needed.
  • The Criterion Referenced Competency Test will be administered in grades 3 - 8 beginning today through April 27.  Benchmark testing will be conducted in grades 1 and 2 during the CRCT testing window.  Oconee County Schools Superintendent John Jackson reminds parents to please make sure children get plenty of rest, eat nutritious meals, and arrive at school on time each day.
  • The UGA Diamond Dogs host Furman at 6 p.m.  Tickets are $5.
  • It's spirit night at Acapulcos Mexican Grill.  A percentage of sales will be donated to Oconee County Elementary and Oconee County Primary.
