Oconee Today - Dec. 28

Five things to know in Oconee County today.

1.  Support your Blue and White Warriors!

After a big win last night, the OCHS boys are ready to take on the Rockdale County Heritage Hoops Nation tonight at 8 p.m. as hosts of the Warrior Holiday Basketball Classic at the OCHS gymnasium, 2720 Hog Mountain Rd in Watkinsville.  The girls, coming back from a heartbreaking loss against Hebron right at the buzzer, will take on the Heritage High School girls at 6:30 p.m. tonight.  The need your support.   Go get 'em Warriors!

2.  Cheer on the Hoop Dawgs!

The UGA men's basketball team take on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at 7 p.m. in Stegeman, 100 Smith St, Athens.  Tickets start at $15.  706-542-1231 or 877-542-1231.  TV coverage: Comcast Sports Southeast. Radio: WRFC (960 AM) Athens. Go Dawgs! Woof.

3.  Check out our newest Patchy neighbor.

A new regional Patch partner is launching this morning at  8:20 a.m. Visit them at: Lawrenceville-ga Patch.  Next on the list?  Barrow County Patch this week and Athens Patch after New Year's. Thanks for your support! We love it here!

4.   Clean your yard?

Seriously, after the Christmas snow and high winds, yards may need cleaning. Today's temps will reach a toasty 45 degrees today! It's a perfect day for getting out in the yard. Don't forget leaf and limb pick up this week in Watkinsville.  Today's schedule includes:  Bunny Hop Trail, Cedar Circle, First Street (North of Whitehall), Second Street (North of Whitehall), Third Street (North of Whitehall), Thrasher Drive, White Lane and White Street. Make sure its out by curb by 7 a.m. and is NOT in bags.  Have fun!

5.  Contract safety with your children!

Print out this form from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office and talk to your children about the safety issues listed on the form. Then ask them to sign it as a binding contract and post it somewhere prominent in your home. You can never do too much to keep your kids safe! Thanks to the Sheriff's office for supplying this to the community.
