Oconee Sheriff's Office Investigating Reported Rape
A woman told deputies she was raped in her home Tuesday by a man she met on Craigslist.
An investigation is underway into a case of reported rape in Oconee County.
According to an incident report, a 32-year-old woman came to the Sheriff's Office around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. She told deputies she'd been communicating with a man on the website Craigslist earlier that evening and that he came to her residence around 8:15 p.m.
"The victim stated that the meeting was mutual, but then became unwanted when [the man] began hitting and abusing her and then finally raped her," a deputy wrote in the report.
The woman was taken to the Athens Sexual Abuse Center.
Sheriff Scott Berry told the Athens Banner-Herald multiple investigators are working on the case and looking for a suspect, but further details were not being released.
