New CFO, Three Assistant Principals Hired at Oconee County Schools

Outgoing Assistant Superintendent for Financial Operations Randy Morrison will help Dan Smith transition into the role.

A new chief financial officer has been hired for Oconee County Schools. The Board of Education, following an executive session on April 8, made the decision that Dan Smith will replace

Smith formerly served as the CFO of Fulton County Schools and most recently worked as Director-Human Resources for Benefits and Leave Administration at Gwinnett County Public Schools.  He'll start May 1 and work alongside Morrison until Morrison leaves at the end of June, according to the Oconee Enterprise.

Also this month, three new assistant principals were hired for CFES, OCMS and NOHS. Here's a bit about them from their resumes:

  • Lara Still brings 23 years of experience as an educator, most recently at a charter school in Morgan County, to Colham Ferry Elementary School.  She has a Specialist in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College.
  • Dallas Leduff comes to Oconee County Middle School from South Forsyth High School where he's a graduation coach and administrator assistant. He has a Specialist in Educational Leadership degree from Valdosta State University.
  • Meredith Blackburn hails from Clarke Central High School. She'll be bringing her experience as the international baccalaureate coordinator, gifted collaborator and scheduler to North Oconee High School.  She possesses a doctorate in Workforce Education and Leadership from UGA. 

In other personnel news, the Board of Education approved a plan to reduce staffing at the alternative school.  The 12-month director position will be replaced by a 10-month teacher who will oversee the 15-17 students enrolled in the program, a move the Oconee Enterprise reports will save the system about $25,000.
