Oconee County High School Student Accused of Having Alcohol on Campus

The 18 year old was booked into the Oconee County Jail Thursday on a charge of underage possession of alcohol. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

An 18-year-old Oconee County High School student was arrested on campus Thursday morning after the assistant principal told Sheriff's deputies that alcohol had been found in his possession.

According to an incident report, school officials said they had reason to suspect the student had the alcohol and when they checked, he had a 750 ml bottle of Seagram's Gin.

Deputies say the student told them someone had given him the bottle.  The student declined to take a portable breath test and said he did not want to do anything else without an attorney, the report stated.

Zachary Scott Lester of Watkinsville was charged with underage possession of alcohol, a misdemeanor.
