Mike Huff Takes Place on Watkinsville Council

His first meeting was Wednesday, and his first vote was to approve a business license request for a new downtown eatery.

A new member joined Watkinsville council this week.

Mike Huff was sworn in by Probate Court Judge David Anglin Wednesday, beginning a two-year term that will end on Dec. 31, 2014.

Huff was the only candidate to qualify for Samantha Purcell's Post 4 seat after she announced last fall she wouldn't seek re-election.

After a little housekeeping, the first order of business was to review a business license request for European Cousine LLC, which will be located at 10D Barnett Shoals Road.  Owner and Watkinsville resident Evey Renoir said she has a passion for food and wants to introduce new, healthy options that will compliment offerings from other local restaurants.

Since plumbing and renovations must still be done in the building, the license was granted with the contingency that all health department permits be turned into the city prior to its issue.

Check back later today for more details about the restaurant slated to open next month.
