Oconee's Longtime Tax Commissioner to Retire

Harriette Browning is leaving office after eight terms and deputy tax commissioner Jennifer Riddle hopes to fill her shoes, The Oconee Enterprise reports.

Since 1980, Harriette Browning has been the Tax Commissioner of Oconee County.  Earlier this month she announced her plans to retire at the end of her eighth term, The Oconee Enterprise reports.

Browning, who began working in the tax office in 1970 for fomer tax commissioners Jimmy Christopher and Gaynell Fielding,  told the newspaper she's looking forward to spending time with family and relaxing.

Deputy tax commissioner Jennifer Riddle plans to run for the office, according to the newspaper.  Riddle has 19 years of experience in the tax office but county policy requires that she take a leave of absence during her campaign, the article notes.

Candidate qualifying will take place May 23-25.
