Johns Creek Police Officer Laid to Rest in Oconee

Funeral services were held Saturday at Briarwood Baptist Church for 46-year-old Watkinsville native Corporal Greg Whitaker of the Johns Creek Police Department, who died on March 2 following a brief illness.

 

Observers witnessed a long procession of fellow officers that led the way to Oconee Memorial Park on Saturday where Corporal Greg Whitaker of the Johns Creek Police Department was laid to rest.

Whitaker died March 2 after a brief illness.

During his 23-year career in law enforcement, he worked with the University of Georgia Police Department, was a reserve deputy for the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, and also served with the Fulton County Police Department, Cobb County Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

Whitaker became an inaugural officer of the Johns Creek Police Department in 2008.

The City of Johns Creek announced the Greg Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament “Guns and Hoses,will take place at the St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek on March 28.

There is also a memorial fund in Whitaker's name at United Community Bank.
