House Sitter Accused of Stealing From Vacationing Oconee Family

The family returned Tuesday to find coins, jewelry and silver missing from the Deer Trail home. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

An Oconee County family returned home Tuesday after a week-long vacation to discover someone had taken valuable items from their 1100-block Deer Trail home.

The homeowner talked with the woman she hired to house sit about the missing coins, jewelry and silver, and the woman admitted to having taken some of the items and agreed to return what she had and meet with deputies, according to an incident report.

The woman returned a silver pitcher and china plate along with clothes not originally reported as missing and admitted to also having taken the coins, the deputy wrote in his report.

Samantha Ann Winter,18, of Arnoldsville, was charged with two counts of theft by taking and one count of theft by receiving, all felonies.
