Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon says officers are prepared to deal with the thousands of spectators and participants that will descend upon downtown Saturday for the annual Christmas parade.
He also reminds drivers to watch out for the heavy pedestrian traffic.
"Traffic will be very heavy with lots of pedestrian traffic, including children," he said in a released statement. "Motorists are advised to slow down and use extreme caution."
O'Dillon says parade entries will line up on Barnett Shoals Road and travel through downtown on Main Street.
Ga Highway 15, Barnett Shoals, Whitehall, and all roads intersecting with the parade route will be closed to vehicle traffic shortly before the start of the parade at 11 a.m., he advised. Police will detour Main Street traffic out to the U.S. 441 By-pass.
"If you are coming to the parade, come early." O'Dillon said. "All other motorists are advised to take an alternate route."
